Whitewash (or "I am Other: I Am Not the Person who Did those Sins")

by Yael Unterman

Whitewash

Lush, soft brush,

Slashed even and smooth

Over bump and stains

And we try to forget

The people we upset

The things we did

Out of weakness and pain.

Whitewash,

With a thick, harsh brush

Sloshed wishfully

O'er blots and marks

See nice, fresh wall

In bedroom and hall.

But don’t forget

Under white – it’s dark.
